Henry Butcher Art Auctioneers Sdn Bhd was established in 2008 to promote, reinvigorate the local art scene and to provide an avenue for art collectors / artists to make available their prized art pieces to other collectors. These art pieces can then be acquired at prices determined through a competitive bidding process. Since inception, the company has been an active organiser of art exhibitions in the country which has also attracted attention around the Southeast Asian region.

The stated objectives of HB Art Auctioneers are as follows:
To establish an open and transparent platform for transaction of artworks in Malaysia and a reference point for prices of Malaysian artworks.
To cooperate with all participants of the Malaysian art society particularly galleries, collectors and artists to foster an active Malaysian art market and promote the collection and investment of Malaysian art.
HB Art Auctioneers is a pioneer in art auctions in Malaysia, having held its first auction in 2009 in the form of a charity art auction graced by the late Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah. From holding the art auction once a year, we have now progressed to holding three to four auctions annually besides carrying out private sales, special exhibitions, consultancy advice, art authentication and price assessment services.
HB Art Auctioneers’ focus has so far been on Malaysian & South East Asian art which has developed a strong following in the country as well as overseas. Our auctions are carried out not only physically in an auction hall venue but also through telephone and live online bidding where international and institutional collectors can bid for art pieces anonymously.
Our auction process is carried out in an open & transparent manner and the final bid prices are published on our website, which acts as a good reference point to art collectors.
In 2024, HB Art Auctioneers was recognised for its contributions to the art industry in the country at the National Art Gallery Malaysia’s 65th Anniversary Gala Dinner held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Prior to that, Director of HB Art Auctioneers Sim Polenn also received the Entrepreneur of the Year award in the category of Artpreneur at the prestigious BrandLaureate Entrepreneur Awards 2023.
